Rejoice!

Rejoice!
Today.
Just today.
I’m alive today.
Tomorrow I may
Or may not be living.
However,
I KNOW
That tomorrow
Will not be the same.
Tomorrow,
The day that was today
Will be dead.
As dead as the animal
That has died
Under our house
That keeps on trying
To live
Through our olfactory glands.
As dead as the thoughts and dreams
That I had this morning
But forgot
Before I brushed my teeth.
When the sun rose this morning,
The day was birthed
From the night
As black
As tar
Or the black paint
That I used
To paint
Death.
When the sun sets
Tonight
The day will die.
Will I cry?
No, I will rejoice!
At the beauty
Of the orange
And yellow
And lavender
Sky.
I will rejoice!
At the darkening blue
Turning to black
As black as death.
Each day is a new birth,
A new opportunity,
A new life,
A new child
With unlimited potential
To become
What I had wished
When I was
Just a child.
Each night is
Death.
A chance for rest.
Rejuvenation.
Rejoicing!
Gratitude.
For what was
Today.
For anticipation of the
Secret delights
That are in store
For us
Tomorrow.
With this first peak at Death,
Can you say Hello,
How are you?
Can you introduce yourself?
Death wants to meet you.
In small increments now,
So that when
You get to see
Your last sunset,
You will
Rejoice!
